I found this on my most favourite website, www.unplggd.com !

Basically, a techie bought a cheap cabinet from IKEA and made the draws into little servers! WOW! Possibly the best idea in a long time! I just wonder how it’s kept so cool… Surely those 5inch fans aren’t doing the motherboard or CPU much good?

Here it is:

“This may win the gold in terms of Ikea Hacks. Tim Molter and his friend Alex Nugent needed a ginormous amount of computational power for some projects and they wanted an inexpensive and elegant solution.

“We already built a handful of dual-core headless Linux boxes and added them to our local network, but we could see that adding more would not go too far because of space limitations. What we needed was a compact and efficient design with maximal core density. Rack mountable servers were quite expensive relative to a hand-built quad-core Linux boxes. We imagined there existed some kind of cabinet that would be perfect for housing a bunch of computers.”

    Plus those hangers can be really useful for items that are usually lost somewhere in the room.

    So I handed down to my sister the old MICKE desk.

    I got a second HELMER drawer chest, and used it with my old white one as legs for a 120cm x 60cm VIKA AMON desk surface.

    So here it is with a sheep skin and back-supporting pillow from IKEA. Also it perfectly fits between the HELMERS! Precisely.

Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems announces opening of ...

The facility is an extension of CSE's existing Albuquerque solar research annex, which began operation in 2011. 

"OTF-1 will be an important resource for our customers," said Dr. Christian Hoepfner, Scientific Director at Fraunhofer CSE.

"With annual PV installation at the multi-gigawatt scale, the industry needs enhanced feedback on actual field performance and durability of both existing and new PV technologies. This facility reinforces our commitment to conducting cutting-edge solar research for our clients, and gives our experienced technical team the flexibility to accommodate a broad range of solar power performance testing projects."

 

Test verification from Fraunhofer CSE to accelerate commercialization, establish bankability

The purpose of the new test facility is to support PV module and component manufacturers in assessing the actual field performance and durability of their products, and to allow systems integrators to obtain the crucial data they need to meet ever-tightening performance and lifetime expectations. Obtaining test verification from the independent, non-profit  Fraunhofer CSE will accelerate commercialization and establish bankability of these products.
