Pottery Barn Milk Glass Lamp

Bedroom Makeover « Maple & Magnolia

Love your bedroom makeover. What a new look. It looks so warm and cozy. The blue color is what my daughter wants her bedroom painted. I love Pottery Barn bedding and have a lot of it myself. I think every duvet I have is PB, but all bought on sale or ebay. Love your new lamps(good to have them on for photos) so nice and chunky and what wonderful shades. Love the shutter idea behind the nightstands. That bed does bed you to snuggle! Thanks so much for sharing this.

Although the before looked great, I can see why you were ready for a change. I was just telling my husband today that I am so shocked with myself that one of my bathrooms has actually stayed the same color for three years….That is a long lasting record for me.

Your new room has such a quaint cottage vibe. You must love it…

Take care, Born and raised in the deep South, and having lived in seven states throughout the U.S., I now call Canada home. I have a wonderful husband and three amazing kids. My passion for decorating goes back to my childhood. I have an eye for unseen potential and a knack for thrifty finds. Combining the two and giving new life to tired, outdated pieces of furniture is very satisfying. With a little patience, creativity and imagination creating a beautiful home does not have to be expensive.

Thrift warrior: Remaking treasures

I have a problem. I'm a journalist with a passion for interior design and my paycheck doesn't match my tastes. So, I have to get creative while decorating my house. That means trolling Craig's List and thrift shops for cheap decor I can easily make over or, better yet, plop down in my house as soon as I get home.

One Sunday a month, I plan to share my favorite thrift hits, my Craig's List tips and DIY adventures; even the ones that go awry.

Here's a smattering of my favorite finds that were both kind on my wallet and made my house feel more like home.

The Goodwill on Linden Street (Route 191) in Bethlehem Township, Pa., is one of my favorite stops because the store is open until 9 p.m. It's well organized, offers a discount card and gets Target salvage. You know what I love even more than Target? Discounted Target. Take the adjustable curtain rod, 84 to 120 inches, that I scored for $12 from the Goodwill. Sure, it was missing mounting hardware but $8 and a quick visit
