NEW MILFORD -- Step inside The Primitive Home at 312 Danbury Road in New Milford and it's as if you're in a friend's rural country living room.
There are braided rugs on the floor, Goatboy soap on a shelf and handcrafted cabinets in the corners. Against the walls are natural stained tables, pottery sporting-dishes, beeswax candles and hand-stamped stationery.
The Primitive Home also sells bookshelves, wicker chairs and the newest addition -- upholstered furniture -- including a twin bed with a stuffed fabric headboard and its own decorative stuffed gray cat.
The walls are covered with more than 300 of owner Holly Zaborowski 's specially designed wood signs. Many are sure to elicit giggles and gasps as they speak of life's truths, from the poignant to the irreverent. One reads, "Fuhgeddaboudit."
Other items include window treatments, barn siding-framed watercolors, metal sculptures and Americana quilts.
Zaborowski, 34, is a former construction company project manager who bought the store in 2006. A married mother of three teens, she treats customers like guests.
